This means that it is a scanned image, basically, a picture. It cannot
be read with a screen reader. You could possibly get something readable
by running it through OCR software li Openbook or K1000. Both packages
have a virtual printer. In Openbook it is called the Freedom Import
Printer. in K1000 it is called the KESI Virtual Printer. When you have
the document open in Adobe, hit ALT and arrow up to "Print" and hit
ENTER. In the printer selection box, arrow down to which ever virtual
printer you have, then TAB over to ok and hit the spacebar. The OCR
package will launch, and OCR will be performed, and you should hear text
being read. Depending on the quality of the scan, and how much garbage
there is, you might get something readable, but results will vary.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Adobe saying empty document

Hi All,

I am running XP & Office Home 2002, Jaws 10 latest, & Adobe 9.1. When I
tried to open a PDF file today and in the recent past, I get a message
saying "Alert, empty document". Can anyone tell me what is wrong and
what I will have to do to fix it? All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much, take care.
Mike
