Putting icons back into the SystemTray.

try these steps to get your pseudo mouse hardware icon back into the system tray.

1, start menu;

2, setting/control panel;

3, t= taskbar and start menu, press enter.
If your using Xp, you just need to tab until you hear,
hide inactive icons, the box should be unchecked, so press spacebar to check
this box.
you will now see customize dialog button. The next 3 steps are for vista
users.
4, shift tab one time, you should hear,
taskbar tab.
5, right arrow until you hear;
Notification area tab.
6, tab one time you should hear;
Hide inactive icons this is unchecked, press spacebar to check.
7, tab enter on,
Icons customize....
8, now, down arrow until you hear,
pseudo mouse,or touchpad, I'm totally not sure what it's called;
right arrow, a combo box will open,
down arrow to show.
9, now tab, and enter on okay.

this should get your icon back into the system tray.
these same steps will apply, if you want to remove a icon from your system
tray.
now, you may be able to access the icon and disable the touchpad.

Jewel, I did the same and so far, no change. My buttons still are working.

Now, mind you, I haven't rebooted my computer yet, but that's the next thing I'm going to do to see if that will do the trick.

I have just been to control panel mouse, and first tab down, I came to turn lock on unchecked, so I have checked it and now will, holding my breath, move the wheel and see what happens, ... NOTHING
HAS CHANGED, but it may be less sensitive. One can but hope!

Brian, I tried all the suggestion steps to disable my mousepad, but I'm
not finding categories, for instance, in Vaio support central. I just
couldn't find a disable checkbox in any of the steps.

Could you send me that link for the freeward software for disabling this
thing?

Hello Arianna,

I don't have a Sony Vaio, but I found a support article on the Sony site
that you might be interested in trying. It gives steps that will
apparently
disable the Sony Vaio touchpad. The first step says to find the Vaio
control center in the start menu. In another post I read, the writer
said
it was in the All Programs group, so you might need to check both places.
The steps below that are shown first are from Sony Support. Following
those
steps, I have information from a couple different people that is a little
different but might work. If neither work, there is a freeware package
available from PCWorld called "TouchFreeze." It didn't work on my
Windows 7
64-bit laptop, but again, I don't have a Sony Vaio. It was written to
work
with XP, and I have heard that it works with Vista, but apparently it
doesn't work with Windows 7 64-bit. I cannot vouch for the freeware, as
I
have only read posts from individuals claiming it works well to disable
the
touchpad and the tapping. I can send you a link to the TouchFreeze
installation file if you want it. However, you might want to try the
steps
shown below first. The information in the steps is for mouse users, so
you
will need to use equivalent keyboard actions.

Steps from Sony Support

1. Click the Start button, then click VAIO Control Center . NOTE:
Earlier models may refer to the application as VAIO Support Central
instead
of VAIO Control Center .

2. In the VAIO Control Center window, click the Categories tab.

3. On the Categories tab, click the Plus (+) symbol next to
Keyboard
and Mouse .

4. Under Keyboard and Mouse , double-click Built-in Pointing Device
.

5. In the Built-in Pointing Device window, click to clear the
Enable
box.

6. Click the OK button.

7. In the Built-in Pointing Device dialog box, click the Yes
button.

Posts from two Sony Vaio users

"Basically you click on Start, All Programs, Look for Pointing Device, a window will come up that has an "enable" box checked, and just uncheck it
and hit OK."

"This problem has driven me crazy for almost a year now since I purchased
my
Sony Vaio. The cursor would wildly jump all over the place will typing in
any

application, really bad on Facebook as it would constantly scroll page up
&
down along with closing my window or go to previous page and I would lose
everything.

I thought it was possibly my blue tooth mouse at first, but it happened
with
usb mouse or no mouse at all. It is with great relief I can say I have
finally

found the fix! It is so simple I'm surprised no one else has come up with
it. Go into your mouse or touch pad properties and uncheck the box that
says

hide cursor while typing. This fixed the problem for me 100%, I'm just
aggrivated that it took me a year to actually figure out something so
simple. Hope

this works for everyone else......"

Take care.

Using a Sony Vaio laptop with one of those darned mousepads, I'v been
through the device manager mouse settings, but I don't seek disable
anywhere.

The thing drives me crazy. It moves the cursor even if I just pass over
the
area. I've run into this problem with other brands of computer also.
And
there's nothing in the system tray for the mouse.

On my lap top it is in the hardware section of device manager. I can
give

further directions later on when I get to it probably this afternoon at

Ah, now it makes some sense to me. On my laptop, I have one of those

built-in mice. All laptops are different, but on mine I press

function key with the number 2 to turn off the mouse. I've also seen

laptops that you turn off the mouse by pressing function key with #9.

You could be wreckless like me and try different key combinations

until you get it or check your user manual. Perhaps if you tell the

list what kind of keyboard you have, someone will be able to give you

the right combination.

Good luck, Betsy

Betsy! It is a desktop keyboard that I have. Sometime ago, some

The little finger of my left hand, I swear doesn't touch the rotten

has to approach it which it does quite often when I am pressing keys

the cursor will, all of a sudden, have moved up a couple of

lines. Just about drives me into

insanity: not a very long journey I must admit, but a journey I am

trying, with no thanks to the

pseudo mouse, to defer for as long as is possible.

Hi Jewel,

Are you talking about a laptop or some other equipment? I've never

seen such a little wheel in that place on a keyboard.
