I just came in on this thread but I have a new ASUS laptop and it has a
series of key combinations that I never ran into before.  On the bottom left
row of keys there is a special Function Key that is just to the right of the
Control key.  A sighted friend pointed out that I have a whole series of
commands that work with this key in conjunction with the top row of Function
keys.  As an example, if I hold down the lower Function key and then press
the top F9 key it toggles the mouse touch screen on and off.  I don't know
if this is your issue.
