I don't have a Sony Vaio, but I found a support article on the Sony
site
that you might be interested in trying. It gives steps that will
apparently
disable the Sony Vaio touchpad. The first step says to find the Vaio
control center in the start menu. In another post I read, the writer
said
it was in the All Programs group, so you might need to check both
places.
The steps below that are shown first are from Sony Support. Following
those
steps, I have information from a couple different people that is a
little
different but might work. If neither work, there is a freeware
package
available from PCWorld called "TouchFreeze." It didn't work on my
Windows 7
64-bit laptop, but again, I don't have a Sony Vaio. It was written to
work
with XP, and I have heard that it works with Vista, but apparently it
doesn't work with Windows 7 64-bit. I cannot vouch for the freeware,
as I
have only read posts from individuals claiming it works well to
disable the
touchpad and the tapping. I can send you a link to the TouchFreeze
installation file if you want it. However, you might want to try the
steps
shown below first. The information in the steps is for mouse users,
so you
will need to use equivalent keyboard actions.
Steps from Sony Support
1. Click the Start button, then click VAIO Control Center .
NOTE:
Earlier models may refer to the application as VAIO Support Central
instead
of VAIO Control Center .
2. In the VAIO Control Center window, click the Categories tab.
3. On the Categories tab, click the Plus (+) symbol next to
Keyboard
and Mouse .
4. Under Keyboard and Mouse , double-click Built-in Pointing
Device .
5. In the Built-in Pointing Device window, click to clear the
Enable
box.
6. Click the OK button.
7. In the Built-in Pointing Device dialog box, click the Yes
button.

Using a Sony Vaio laptop with one of those darned mousepads, I'v been
through the device manager mouse settings, but I don't seek disable
anywhere.
The thing drives me crazy. It moves the cursor even if I just pass
over the
area. I've run into this problem with other brands of computer also.
And
there's nothing in the system tray for the mouse.

Ah, now it makes some sense to me. On my laptop, I have one of those
built-in mice. All laptops are different, but on mine I press
function key with the number 2 to turn off the mouse. I've also seen
laptops that you turn off the mouse by pressing function key with #9.
You could be wreckless like me and try different key combinations
until you get it or check your user manual. Perhaps if you tell the
list what kind of keyboard you have, someone will be able to give you
the right combination.

The little finger of my left hand, I swear doesn't touch the rotten
thing, but it, the finger, only
has to approach it which it does quite often when I am pressing keys

lines. Just about drives me into
insanity: not a very long journey I must admit, but a journey I am
trying, with no thanks to the
pseudo mouse, to defer for as long as is possible.

seen such a little wheel in that place on a keyboard.
