Happy New Year, gang. Boy, I really screwed things up attempting to clean up
my computer for the new year. File Hippo Update Checker showed that my version
of NVIDA Forceware was not the latest version, so like a dope I when ahead and
downloaded and installed the latest version. I then rebooted my computer. But
I got an error message that Windows had encountered a serious problem and
needed to close to protect my computer, so I rebooted again. This time, JAWS
came up talking, but to my dismay, when I read messages in OE, JAWS no longer
announces the "From" and "Subject" fields. Only the text of the message is
read. So I restartedJAWS and got a Video Intercept dialog box that asked me to
install the video intercept, which I presume is related to my installation of
NNVIDA. But when I hit the execute button to restart my computer and install
the video intercept, I again got the error message that Windows had encountered
a serious problem and needed to close....... So I rebooted a third thime, got
JAWS back and attempted to perform a System Restore. But I was unable to
perform a successful restore with any of the restore points I selected. I
tried restore points from yesterday, the day before, and the day before that,
but none of them worked. Now every time I start JAWS, I get the video
intercept dialog, and in addition to my email messages not being spoken
correctly, the JAWS cursor doesn't work, and I cannot read the Status bar ,
among other glitches probably related to the video intercept problem. If I
can't successfully install the video intercept or perform a System Restore,
what can I do to fix this problem? I'm almost certain that this trouble is
related to my updating of NVIDA Forceware. I'm running JAWS 9 with XP Pro. I
hope I'm making sense. I'm not really too knowledgeable about this kind of
problem, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Gerald
