Another possibility is that it could be what's known as the F Lock key, which is a toggle key between different function key modes. (JAWS probably won't speak it when pressed with any other key. It may already have been reassigned, or turned off, by the former owner.) )

Mike,

is there a model name/number for the keyboard, do you know? Then perhaps we can get a description of this kiey's functionality from somewhere. Do you have sufficient contact details (email addy, etc.) for the selling owner? Does the keyboard have an Applications key, and where is it? (It should be next the right-windows key if that's present, which it seems to be.)

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply. I tried Jaws keyboard help using several
keystrokes with this, folders key, & Jaws didn't once mention this
particulaar key.
Take care.

Hi

One thing you can try is the turn on the keyboard help mode by pressing JAWSkey+numrow 1. Then press the key to see what JAWS says it is. If it doesn't say anything, try pressing and holding it and press a letter key to see what is says. If JAWS recognizes the key, it will say KeyName+letter. But if it just says the letter, it is probably something like the FN key that never gets past to Windows. In that case, I doubt you can map it to something else. Type JAWSkey+numrow 1 again to turn off keyboard help mode. If JAWS does say what the key is, you can try creating a Default.jkm file in
your JAWS user settings directory and include entries like

[Common Keys]
KeyName=ScriptName

Where ScriptName is the name of a script found in the Default.JSS file in the JAWS shared settings folder. This Default.jkm file will not interfere with the JAWS sup[plied Default.jkm file. As far as I know, the shift, caps
lock, control, windows and alt keys cannot be mapped in a JKM file.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Keystroke Functionn, How Do I Change 1

Hi All,

I'm running XP Pro, Jaws 13 thru 15, & a Microsoft Desktop 3000 wireless keyboard. In the place where the right Windows Key is normally, there is a button / key with a picture of 3 folders. I have no clue as to what this
key does. Is there any way to change the function of this key to the
function of a Windows Key? Or, is there a way of swapping the functions of
the left Windows Key and the key with the key with the pictures of 3
folders? All advice & help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you all
very, very much.

Take care.
Mike
