I would agree that in File Explorer you can use Control+Shift+N to start the
process of creating a new folder, but it is not necessary to backspace ; the
text is highlighted and can be overwritten just by typing in the name of the
folder.

When in the documents folder, or desktop, try CTRL shift n, and edit box
will appear saying new folder, backspace that out, type in the new name for
your folder and press enter.

I noticed that several list members are now using Windows 8.1 as I am on a
laptop.

I have tried every trick I know and can't find out how to create a new
folder using 8.1.  Can someone please rescue this poor frustrated Windows 7
user before I give up and re-load Windows 7?
