Hi all,
I use XP and honestly love it because I know it. I have w7 on a laptop and don't like it as much most likely because I don't know it as well.
That being said April 8, 2014 is soon so here is what I googled and found:

Nope. Using the JAWS cursor to read the infornation on the NSE History tab, there is a message at the top of the page that myPC status is potentially unprotected, but no expanation as to why. As I mentioned previously, I suspect that MS is deliberately flagging XP computers as unprotected, when, in fact, this is not actually the case, to scare XP users into upgrading to Windows 8 even though support for the XP version of MSE will continue through July, 2015. MS has done a splendid job of convincing the mainstream media that XP computers will all be rendered into useless paperweights by the nasty boys of cyberspace after support for XP ends on Tuesday. Remember all the doomsayers who predicted that the world as we know it would end on January, 1,2000, thanks to the so-called Y2K problem? How did that work out?

Hi Gerald,

I'm confused, when you go to your system tray with the Jaws Key+F11, then go to the PC Potentially Unprotected, then left double click on the item, you should be able to use your Jaws cursor to see why your PC is potentially unprotected.

Is this not the case?

Sorry, I've just never seen this before that one couldn't find out why their PC was potentially unprotected.

That used to be the case, but not anymore. Running a scan does not get rid of the potentially unprotected message in the System Tray. The fact that I began getting this message yesterday, just five days before support for XP ends seems to be more than just a coincidence. Maybe it's a warning from MS that although support for MSE will continue until July 2015, a computer may still be potentially unprotected as long as it keep running XP. So are any
other XP users on this list who also use MSE getting this potentially
unprotected message, too?

Gerald

All you have to do when you get that message is to do a scan and it goes away. Jim

You have to update the definitions.
Open the program from the system tray
Go to the update tab
Alt+ u
And let it update.
Not sure, but you may have to reboot.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MSE Flagging MY PC As Potentially Unprotected

Hi gang. For the past two days, the Microsoft Security Essentials icon in the System Tray of my XP computer has been showing "PC Status Potentially
Unprotected". Using the JAWS cursor to read the History tab, I notice
that there are options labeled "remove" and "remove all" at the bottom of the page , presumably to remove harmful items that have been quarantined, but when I attempt to click on either of these options with the left mouse button, nothing happens, and my PC status remains potentially unprotected. Neither running a full scan nor rebooting my computer changes the status
to protected. So how can I get MSE to change the status of my PC from
potentially unprotected to protected? Thanks for any help.

Gerald
