No, as far as I can tell, Unchecky only unchecks boxes within the downloader
interface, not in the program itselfor on web pages.

So if I understand correctly, this only unchecks boxes of
programs being installed? It doesn't affect checked boxes on
web pages, current selections within the C Cleaner program,
or list mail programs like mailman?

Al

Unchecky runs in the backround and loads automatically when
you start your computer. It will apparently uncheck any
check boxes that are checked by default for installing
unwanted programs that it encounters on the downloader
interface.

Does this new program run automatically in the background
or do you
need to run it periodically before you go to install the
software

I might post unchecky if I can figure out if it is free
for me to do so.
It
has a license agreement that is longer than the deed to
my house,
marriage license and income tax forms all put together.
If you think I am exaggerating folks take a look at it

Well, you're correct. I located the check box for
installing Google
Chrome on the Install page of the downloader by using
the JAWS
cursor. But clicking on this check box with the left
mouse button
gives no indication of whether the box is checked or
unchecked, so
if you are not careful, you may wind up re-checking this
box by
accident . In any case, I installed Unchecky so that
this check box
will automatically be unchecked the next time I update
CCleaner.
Perhaps this useful little utility should be added to
the JAWS Users
programs page, which,by the way, now has a warning
accompanying the
CCleaner download link to be careful about inadvertently
installing
unwanted programs.

Hi Gerald,
Normally you'll find the Google / Google Chrome
checkboxes while
you're on the Install button. When you're on the
Install button,
route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, press the
page-up key to go to
the top of the page, & arrow down 1 line at a time.
You'll need to
uncheck the checkboxes with Numpad slach or left mouse
button. Also
there is a little program called Unchecky that will
stop this as well.
Info is below:
From: Carlos
Anyone who is concerned about unintentionally
installing promotional
software may be interested in trying Unchecky.
http://unchecky.com/
It runs in the background as a service and monitors for
recognized
installers. It then automatically unchecks any
checkboxes related to
installing toolbars, browsers, and similar unwanted
products. I have
not thoroughly tested the program and it is not
guaranteed to catch
everything, but there have already been several updates
since the
initial release so I'm sure it's detection rate will
improve.
I've used this program for quite awhile now & it works
great!
HTH
Take care.

That's the problem. I could not find any check box for
installing
Google Chrome anywhere on the downloader interface, and
I checked each
page carefully with the JAWS cursor. I wound up
removing it using
Revo Uninstaller. If anyone else can find the elusive
check box for
installing Chrome, please let me knoe how to locate it
so that I do
not get screwed over again the next time I install a
new version of
CCleaner.

Gerald,
Unfortunately that's quite normal with 'modern'
software installers.
It's either Ask or Chrome or a few similar bun
unnecessary, but you
have the option to uncheck the install box during
setup, IF of course
you can find it.
So now you can use C Cleaner to un install chrome.

Chrome is still

Therefore, I suggest that a warning be added to the
CCleaner

CCleaner will also
result in the installation of Google Chrome, which is
nothing but
unwanted crapware for most JAWS users.
