the URL of the page I am on.

But that's the problem pressing either Alt-D or F6 reveals that the

bar is empty. How can I fix this so that pressing either of these

I think you should be pressing alt d or the alternative f6 key. Then you
should be able to copy to clipboard.
The alt a brings up favorites in IE.

I don't understand what's going on, but all of a sudden whenI press
Alt-A
in IE 8 to place the address of a web page into the address bar and
then
press Control-C to copy it to the clipboard, JAWS announces "copy line"
instead of "copy selected text to clipboard", and I can apparently no
longer copy web addresses to the clipboard. How can I fix this problem
and restore the normal copy function? Thanks.
