Hello Kimber,

If the Email senders are using Microsoft Exchange and are using the RTF
format instead of HTML, this might be the reason the items are embedded in
the body of the message instead of showing in the attachments list. Two
things that the Email senders might check are found in the Outlook mail
options. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T. In the mail category there is a
combo box that determines whether composed messages are in HTML, RTF or text
by default. This should be set to HTML. Also in the mail options there is
a combo box "When sending messages in rich text format to Internet
recipients" and this should be set to Convert to HTML format. When the
message being sent is converted to HTML the embedded object is changed to an
attachment in the attachments list.

When you receive an embedded file sent as an attachment by a sender using
RTF and Exchange you quite often can position the focus in the message,
route JAWS to PC and arrow up or down looking for the word "attachment." A
right mouse click using the third key from the left on the top row of the
number pad will give the contextual menu for saving the attachment, opening
it, etc. Quite often there can be an extra attachment in the body of the
message, which is a certifying message. You might need to turn on
unrestricted movement of the JAWS cursor or even use Mouse Down commands to
find these attachments.

If the Email senders can make sure they are sending HTML or that the RTF
files are being converted to HTML when sent, this should work best for you.

Take care.

I've never tried insert f5 to try and get to an attachment.

I'm curious how the sender is attaching the document when it shows up as a
graphic because no matter what I do, my attachments are always accessible
with jaws.

In the situation I'm describing this method doesn't work. The only thing
shift tabbing does is cycle through the email fields like subject, sent,
from etc.
