I haven't used OE in a very long time, but if it has a preview or
navigation pane, disable it.  This could be one cause of the problem.

Whether the window is maximized or not often doesn't make any
difference. 
For example, I always have mine maximized, but restoring it made no
difference whatever in what I saw in the messages list of this computer.

Once you go into OE just maximize that window,that should do it.
If there is another way I don't know that one.
