Ultimate compatibility. Portability. Efficiency. In mutt, which is a tool I use by deliberate choice mind you, I delete all HTML email. So if you want to communicate with me on my other account, you have to send plain text. Also security, not just Javascript security. What if you send <img src="http://myhosthere.com/verify?identity=email@address"> ?? The spammer now nows your email is read by a human. Bingo! update spammers database. Lets look at efficiency. It might be great for us westerners to say, who gives a shit about emails four-times-as-big-as-necessary, but for others, such choices means more expensive hardware, more strain on infrastructure, more resources diverted from other pressing needs. Just because we live in a society where people consume more packaging than food, doesn't mean everyone else should too. More expensive computers and less recycled old hardware means more environmental degradation. Faster computers and more peripherals mean more electricity. More electricity means more carbon dioxide. The tech industry has always had a hubris about how it's part of the solution (if you followed the 'Wired' idiotic boosterism school of thought) but it's just as part of the problem as anything else and requires humans to make sensible choices to lessen it's impact. Adequate sufficiency. And plain-text is adequate and sufficient enough. This email exchange is all plain text. Would a HTML version make it any better? regs scot. ____________________________________________________ To change your JDJList options, please visit: http://www.sys-con.com/java/list.cfm Be respectful!
