But in a spammers database there are millions of email addresses which don't
work any more or are administrative addresses (you should see how much crap
hits majordomo@xxx and postmaster and root and so on). And dead addresses.
What they are doing are verifiying which ones are actually 'live' addresses
and thereby making their databases 'better'. And you will get *more* spam,
or marketing material or whatever.

You have to actively click on it first. The other, you just have to read the
message. I like to have *choice* about which marketers I let know I
responding to their material. HTML email takes away that choice. Therefore
it is a security issue.
