There is an alternative (e.g. optional for Outlook 2000 and automatically
set for the Win....CE 3.0 or earlier mail client):
use "auto preview" to generate a short ASCII representation of any incoming
eMail that you have not removed from your mail-server.
This mode lets you read the beginning of the mail and doesn't access
contained server images.

a) I remember a good book from a software Guru way back in Amiga times when
a C compiler was a "hip" tool:
It showed - or at least tried to show - that anything - even "Hello World" -
could be done faster and more effective with Assembler.

b) from the monetary aspect ASCII seems to win:
Amazon.com lists (in their advertisements) books - mainly "in ASCII
format" - before software and other products
in the people's Christmas wish-list.

At least it all began with "BugBear" - a subject that is of interest for
many people right now
(thinking of that 10% virus eMails I receive daily).
