Also, the folks paying for the mail like to know the number of impressions (views by a warm body) .
Read receipts often need a confirmation by the client, I can always say "NO". You may not/won't click on "htt://www.MarkZawadzkiNudePics.com/main509534.jpg". However, just loading the html makes a request for the tag file. The image does not have to be clicked. Just an attempt to download. No user interaction required.
