Dear Friend,

There are many moments in life when we pause and think what is our life's
purpose. When questions like this arise, we must always go back to what
God says in His Word. The Bible says that our life as long as it may seem
is only like a vapor that appears for a short time and then vanishes away.
If our life is as short as the Bible says it is, then we have to think of
the impact that our lives have had on others once our life is over and done
with. We cannot continue to live our life in a manner that is only to
please ourselves and look for our own best interests. If we do live in
this manner, we will soon find how shallow and unsatisfying that way of
living feels in our hearts. (James 4:14) (Romans 15:1-4) (Matthew 19:29-30)

You see, we cannot live only for ourselves and our own self interests and
not give clear attention to the legacy that we leave behind. This life
that God has given us is not meant to be used solely for our benefit, but
we are to use the gifts and talents that He has given us for the betterment
of others. Jesus tells us to not lay up for ourselves treasures on earth
where moths can destroy and thieves can steal, but lay up for ourselves
treasures in heaven where neither moth nor thief can destroy or steal. We
are to be heavenly minded and realize that life is temporary, but eternity
is forever. (Hebrews 12:1-3) (Matthew 6:19-22) (2 Corinthians 4:18)

I hope you are encouraged by today's message to be one who does good works
selflessly for the betterment of others so that you may be remembered in
cheerfulness and praised for living an unselfish and pure life before man and
God.

THE GUY WITH THE DONKEY

When we all get home I know what I want to do. There's someone I want to
get to know. I want to meet the guy with the donkey.

I don't know his name or what he looks like. I only know one thing: what he
gave. He gave a donkey to Jesus on the Sunday he entered Jerusalem.

"Go to the town you can see there. When you enter it, you will quickly find
a donkey tied there with its colt. Untie them and bring them to me. If
anyone asks you why you are taking the donkeys, say that the Master needs
them, and he will send them at once." (Matthew 21:3)

When we all get to heaven I want to visit this fellow. I have several
questions for him.

Did you know? Did you have any idea that your generosity would be used for
such a noble purpose? Did it ever occur to you that God was going to ride
your donkey? Were you aware that all four gospel writers would tell your
story? Did it ever cross your mind that a couple of millenniums later, a
curious preacher in South Texas would be pondering your plight late at night?

Maybe you have those questions, too. All of us have a donkey. You and I
each have something in our lives, which, if given back to God, could, like
the donkey, move Jesus and His story further down the road.

Are You Ready To Give Up Your Donkey?

Be encouraged and know that you will always get the better end of the deal
when you do what God leads you to do. I often think of the woman who
poured on the head of Jesus the ointment of spikenard that was precious and
very expensive. There were many people around the Lord who criticized her
for "wasting" the precious ointment, but Jesus said that she had done a
good work for Him and because of what she did, Jesus said that wherever the
gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman did will also be
told as a memorial to her. (Mark 14:3-9) (Ephesians 2:10) (Matthew 5:13-16)

No matter what others may say about you, always remember that you are going
to stand before God alone and give an account of what you did with your
life on the earth. Never allow the criticism of others to keep you from
being in God's perfect will for your life. Live selflessly and do good
works not so that you may be praised, but God be praised because of your
life and your care for those around you. (Romans 14:11-12) (Luke 9:23-26)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

1 Peter 2:9-10 "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy
nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him
who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not
a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now
have obtained mercy."

2 Corinthians 4:7-10 "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that
the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard
pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in
despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed-
always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the
life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body."

Revelation 22:12-14 Jesus declares "And, behold, I come quickly; and my
reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am
Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed
are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of
life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.

Dear Friend,

When trials and tribulations come our way, we sometimes feel that our faith
has reached its limits and our will to overcome has been defeated. We must
always keep in mind the promise of the Lord and remember that He will never
give us more than we are able to bear. Encourage yourself in the Lord's
promise and continually stand strong and keep in mind that God knows the
limits of your spirit and will never allow a trial that you are not able to
overcome and be victorious over. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13) (Psalm 91:14-16)

I hope you are blessed and encouraged by today's message to trust in the
Lord's provision and know that it is God who goes before you to make your
crooked paths straight. (Isaiah 42:16-21)

FAITH'S STRUGGLE

Things are getting piled up,
God I'm losing sight of who you are.
I go through the motions of living,
treating each day like the one before.

Each day is a test in patience,
a testing of my strength.
How much longer will you wait, Lord?
As of right now, I feel you're late.

"All in His time," is what people say
and I know that is true;
but with the way things are going
I've lost comfort in that too.

My hope is being shattered
by the things that press me down.
And my faith has begun to waver;
so like Peter I've started to drown.

I'm sailing a sea of lonesome
to an island of despair.
My ship has started sinking;
I see lightning in the air.

As your child I'm calling out to you,
please listen to my cry.
Answer my questions of wonder;
I'll wait for your reply.

Your answers mean so much to me;
it's your will I'm striving for.
If I could only see the shore more clearly
I might find the open door.

All the doors that I've come close to
have been shut right in my face.
What does it really mean when people
talk about your mercy and grace?

They say you understand,
after all that you've been through.
Well, please then, take my hand
and show me what it is I'm supposed to do.

If I am to wait longer, then give me patience;
if I am to trust, then give me faith;
because without you right beside me
this storm cannot be faced.

And sometimes we must step
through the mist and reach for the unknown.
Then when we reach dry land, Lord,
we'll see how much we've grown.

Sometimes you require a leap of faith;
though the shoreline is not clear;
but your grace and mercy are sufficient;
there is nothing I need fear.

Your love, it knows no limits,
and no other love compares.
Draw closer to me now, God,
and wash away my tears.

For I can rest in each tomorrow
if Your love is all I know;
So in the midst of the storms of life,
Lord, hold my hand and don't let go.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Hebrews 12:2-3 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the
shame, and is set down at the Right Hand of the throne of God. For consider
Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be
wearied and faint in your minds."

Psalm 25:1-5 "Unto Thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust
in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea,
let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress
without cause. Shew me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in
Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I
wait all the day."

Isaiah 45:2-3 "I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight:
I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of
iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of
secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by
thy name, am the God of Israel."

2 Timothy 1:7-9 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of
power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of
the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of
the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved
us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but
according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus
before the world began."

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
