this is the installation instructions, in their entirety:
<begin quote>
Move the "content" directory to "/content" under your web server. If you
already have a "content" directory simply add the files there. Add
./bin/Jetspeed.jar to your classpath. This contains all classes from
Jetspeed. You will also need to add required libraries to your classpath.
Everything you need should be under ./lib.
Configure your Servlet init parameters. Add the property "properties" to
point to Jetspeed to the file "./src/config/TurbineResources.properties"
that ships with the Jetspeed distribution. This can be done by setting an
init parameter in your Servlet Engine (under Jakarta this is defined in
WEB-INF/web.xml). You should give the Servlet an alias to something like
"jetspeed".
Within TurbineResources.properties change the line "jetspeed.properties" to
point to the "JetspeedResources.properties" file that comes with Jetspeed.
Configure your installation. You should evaluate TurbineResources.properties
and JetspeedResources.properies to make sure they match your configuation.
There are comments in both of these files which should make configuration
fairly easy. Note that Turbine supports user authentication. Jetspeed
supports this but it is currently optional and up to you to setup.
Possibly restart your servlet engine.
Bring up a 4.0 browser and point it to http://HOST/servlet/jetspeed
<end quote>
now i'm a newbie to this process and i don't want to incur the wrath of what
i'm sure are some very hard-working people, but this just won't do.
para 1: what does 'under your web server' mean? under the installation
dir? under bin?
para 1: do i need to explicitly include every .jar in the ./lib directory
in my classpath? (i did)
para 2: all that's needed here is an xml sample to cut-and-paste into the
web.xml file. Note that tomcat currently comes with SIX web.xml files, four
of which are under separate WEB-INF directories. which one?
para 2: "the servlet" is never mentioned anywhere. Turns out this is
Turbine (thanks to the list for helping me with this one).
para 4: "make sure they match your configuration"? idiots like me need to
know what needs to match what.
para 4: authentication is mentioned, but nothing to indicate if i need to
do anything about it to get jetspeed running.
i'm using a brand new copy of jakarta-tomcat, i've followed the above
instructions (at least i think i have) and i'm still getting a 404 trying to
find jetspeed. :-(
still trying though.
