In my daughter's bathroom -4 X 6 a water closet really, which has to contain all the cr*p a 15 yo finds necessary for maintainance (How the granola queen birthed someone who dumps about 20 potions on herself every morning is beyond me. . .)
It is ceramic tile up to chest level, so I topped all the tile with 3" peice of pine (painted in a wash glaze with a checked edge and border to match the wall and floor decor) on brackets. One wall is entirely mirrored to enlarge the room. I also ceiling hung a sizeable wire basket next to the mirror for brushes and hair cosmetics and store towels in a decorator basket on the floor between pedestal sink and toilet.
She uses one towel rack for towels and the other one (these are also ceramic) has shower hooks - the kind that clip closed - on it, and from them hang small baskets for makeup and fragrance. (you could probably use water proof ditty bags too) Her body care products go on the shelf. There is also a high pine shelf at the back of the tub enclosure (heavily sealed with maritine urethane) for shampoos and conditioners. A small chest stores toilet paper and cleaning supplies. We still have enough wall and floor space to keep the room from being overwhelmed (I'm an ex decorator, can you tell?) but it's very functional and easy for her to keep orderly.
When we did the clutter rehab, it only took about $30 (She paid for the materials herself) and an afternoon, but what a difference and it was a wonderful project for us to do together.
