Pam: Ditto on the toilet plunger. I too, hate seeing one in the bathroom. They are always such odd colors too like bright yellow and black. I'll bet your husband wants it there because, let's face it, if one needs it right now, so the toilet doesn't flood. I'll be watching with interest to anyone's suggestion.
As far as bathroom vanity items, our master bathroom is also extremely small, with virtually no counterspace. I can't even use over the toilet shelves because there is a window there. What I did was go to Evelyn and Crabtrees and bought some small decorative victorian boxes (one pink and white striped, two minature prints) that I store smaller items like barrettes, hairbands, etc. in. For items that I use every day, I used Longaberger baskets with pretty lace linings to store those items. Things such as these would look pretty on your shelf. You could put little flower vases, or candles next to some of the boxes. The under-the-sink storage area should also be just for those items that you really need (sink cleanser, sponge, hair dryer. If you have enough room, some sort of stack-a-shelf might make good use of the area. Otherwise, most of the space under the sink is wasted.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Peggy
