T *** Here's the explanation: North Americans refer to the toilet as "the bathroom" 
even
if it's a stand-alone toilet, without basin and bathtub. I've even heard a North 
American
exclaim that a dog had "gone to the bathroom" on her porch. I harbour no bitter 
resentment
toward, or hatred for, people who use the expression. I just find it quaint, is all.
