Where was Nuer justice in Nasir? Your hatred, Mr. Deng Khoryoam, for
GoSS made you think it's Dinka and Nuer's government which is totally
rubbish. There are so many leaders in the government that hail from
different ethnic groups across the South. I do agree with you that
justice should be applied equally to all citizens irrespective of
their tribe. Those former finance ministers and other corrupt
officials should have been and still should be prosecuted. I totally
disagree with your claim below about the Nuers being unique in terms
of justice. And I quote:
"One unique thing about Nuer (and I am proud to be a Nuer) is that
they don’t allow injustices to be meted on others just because they
are not Nuer or powerless; they would kill one another (Nuer
themselves) but not touch any other person who is non-Nuer, they would
first die before that person could be killed"
Following the Nasir-SPLA split in 1991, the Nuers under the direct
command of (GOSS Vice-president) Riek Machar, murdered so many SPLA
officers and soldiers from Dinka because they refused to back his
rebellion. My uncle, Lt commander Kureng Akoi Yaak, along with many
others were murdered in cold blood in Nasir by the Nuers- Here is you
shouting from the very top of your heart that Nuers should be the
models in justice application, my foot. Where was your Nuer's unique
justice system to help those powerless officers and soldiers? You
should be ashamed of yourself for such fictitious claim. Let's stop
preaching that this tribe is this, and that tribe is that as if it's
the only way forward or we bound to stay in abyss and chaos. Yaak

GOSS not caring for peoples' lives Mr. J. Jackson, Rumbek East County
Conflicts have their backing from GOSS and State elites, it is a
daring fact! First of all, I would like to inform you that I am a
freelance Journalist, professionally trained for both radio production
and skilled journalistic writing as well for almost five years now. I
have been writing to expose covered issues of Lakes state. I have too
written topical issues nationally and internationally. As a trained
Journalist, I have had a chance to go to Rumbek East in person during
this assault of the morning of 22nd April 2011 on this particular
section (community) of Thuyic of Maleng-Agok. Some of the things that
I saw done to them were not proper, but I took my focus mainly on
artillery used, assailants size (Governments' figures involved) and
those believed to be behind these ruthless attacks and I have
evidence, sources, to count from. It does not need a scientist to
determine what has been happening in Rumbek East for both Eastern
Alamtooc of Duor-mayar and Western Alamtooc of Athoi, to which the
recent spate of clashes have turned.
Just wait, I have got another news articles to uncover what has been
covered for years among communities of the whole state of Lakes state
between Pakam of Rumbek North with Luac-jang of Warrap, Unity state,
Gok of Cueibet, Rumbek centre, Wulu with Rumbek East, Yirol West with
Mvolo, Yirol East with Yirol West, Mundari of Central Equatoria with
Aliap of Lakes state in Awerial county and Nuer at both sides of
Warrap and Lakes state. It is always an issue that truth would be
suppressed at the expense of less-advantaged/ minority by powerful few
controlling GoSS and State governments.
It is only that GOSS is adamantly not caring for people's lives. And
if it does, the conflict between Thuyic and Gony could be handled
instantly when proper, independent and fact-finding investigation team
is formed and sent to consider issues involved. By the way, these
sections of Athoi are closely related and I have confidence from both
sections. From an open letter that I saw from one community, it is
disheartening for them to continue fighting each other. I call for
calm and peaceful resolution of the conflict between these two
sections, who, one time was a proud, respectful, honest and brave
community of Athoi, most feared then. Jackson, your arguments lack
substance to dispel my facts written issues of what happened in Athoi.

Stop playing tribalism card Dr James Okuk, since when did Luka Biong
become Abyei Minister? Are all PHD holders confused or what? Let's
drop playing the tribalism card and rather use a unifying South Sudan
language. One whines about SPLM's tribalism and how SPLM-DC is going
to lead by example of non-partisan, non-tribalism blah blah and yet
turns around and attributes a minister to a region/tribe to which they
come from. Use your acquired education for good not for doom. Makoth

What a shame for Lakes State general assembly. Recess for three months
means no plans, no Laws making or work of offices in Lakes State. This
prove to me and the entire citizens of Lake State that the Parliament
of Lakes State is for food and robbing public funds, marriages week
after a week, but not for making any Laws currently as am writing this
letter, around Rumbek here the capital of Lake, citizens left their
villages 7 miles to come to Rumbek centre for fear of being kills in
the night seeking protection from government. Two days and up to now,
residents of Acholthen, and Malual Akan are living in fear for being
woken up in the night by unknown people with illegal firearms
suspected to be ruthless gangs from Cueibet villages looking for food
and money. Therefore what is this three months for to this government?
Doesn't the parliament have enough problems to be addressed? Shame to
illiterate people running national affairs. John Deng Marop, Sudan
Call it ROSS but Never roast it The expectations of the would be
Republic Of South Sudan (ROSS) and its burning issues of internal
revolt are sensitive matters but let's not roast it. Each and everyone
as a citizen has the right to utilize all avenues of claiming
recognition of his rights but we must not express it in extreme such
as waging unjustified wars. The best way of addressing any grievance
is to seek peaceful options and reserve conflict as the last resort.
With the Republic of South Sudan on the way our brothers like George
Athor and Gatdet plus many of their colleagues have to succumb to the
choice of peaceful settlement. Choosing peace when anyone's
aspirations seem to hit the deadlock is not a sign of weakness. There
is nothing as good as being united and pursue your objectives in
vigor. The huge number of innocent people now dying is a great loss
when we have achieved our ultimate goal of development. Madit Magot,
Australia
Nuba must work to demolish Arab NCP It's a shock to hear that the
Governor of NCP holds the post of Governor after the announcement of
the South Kordafun elections results. It's completely unfortunate and
the government of the State and the SPLM should not sleep, the people
of Nuba Mts. have suffered with us during the decades of the civil war
in the South and also participated in the struggle until the we signed
the CPA Therefore, my advice to them is that they have to work very
hard to demolish the NCP in South Kordafan because this party got
Money and sometimes they buy large number of people to achieve their
goals. Talk to ordinary people to reflect back what happened to them
during war, how much blood they lost and how many lives of innocent
children and women they will lose if they continue with Arabs or the
dead NCP , Leaders of the Nuba should sit down and pray to our God to
come to their rescue so that they can enjoy the blessed South Sudan
with Southerners. Please! Don't lose hope all Southerners and
Government of South is behind you. May God Bless the people of Nuba.
Abraham Lueth in Aweil.
Many support decentralization in ROSS I'd like to thank Mr. Deng Riek
Khoryoam for his well articulated articles on this site. First, his
reply to Isaiah Abrahm's tribalistic attitude in relation to case of
Dr Josephine Lagu and now Deng's another fact and nationalistic
article about decentralization. Deng, there are many of us who share
the same sentiments, those people who think by clinking on to power
will do good to them, they are fooling themselves. They need to be
reminded that they are not above God, one day one time they will be
reduced to zero. Lamija Milaja, South Sudan
On fighting between groups in Rumbek Yes, Akolde, it's seems that your
comment criticized one side falsely with unbelievable words created on
the Government officials more than telling realistic words. And as I
passed through your comment, I am really very confused to define you
correctly. Are you a Gelweng from Thuyic of Maleng-agok? Or are you an
intellectual from that particular Payam who nicely support them
verbally? I think all what you have stated in your comment are not
true since Gony from Cuei-cok don't have a police commissioner yet
Thuyic has. What kind of artilleries are talking about? Apart from
that it is something very useless for the people like you to criticize
the Government officials without evidence that can qualify you words.
Back to the false statement you have also created on Gony youth groups
with State officials working group at different departments at State
Ministries, I think there is nobody left in the places you have
mentioned, they are all at Rumbek where you are. Ok, whom do you think
they can leave Rumbek to? J.J. Jackson, South Sudan
Change people's lives in South, not Juba names, advises a 'jellaba'
This shows clearly how some of South Sudanese intellectuals think, it
is reflective of the ill-minded personality of the writer- full of
hatred. Those names of Juba areas are created by the people of Juba
who developed their own Arabic language known as Juba Arabic. No
northerner calls himself 'Jellaba,' these are Juba people words. JUBA
ARABIC is like KISWAHILI - it is the need that created this language.
So you can suggest first to stop people of Juba from using Juba Arabic
and replace it with Juba Dinka Language. Instead of thinking of
changing places names, first think of changing people's lives, hunger,
diseases, tribal wars, corruption...etc etc, to a new life. That's the
intellectual's role, not hatred. Ahmed M. Sudan
The Issue Of South Sudan Capital Transfer The Issue of South Sudan
Capital Transfer has three Strategic Benefits for the Government of
South Sudan namely:
1-Political--The new Capital will enable South Sudan Government to
build the World government standard infrastructures, such Public
transports roads, leading to the Ministries, Embassies and Consulates
which make accidents very rare happening in the City.
2-Economical--seen in terms of attracting and encouraging Foreign
Investors to the City which creates more jobs for many people in the
country rather than creating job opportunities for one state citizens.
3-Military--it provides the golden opportunity for the Military
personnel to have an isolated Republican palace which is always
guarded by the Republican Palace Guards and the excellent Security
protective plan from the President to the lowest Human person in the
country. Ajou Kuek, Awiel, Northern Bahr el Ghazel
Foreigners benefit from our government Comment on 'Selective justice'
Mr. Khoryoam, your article was almost attracting me but it is too
long, however, I would agree with you on the issue of foreigners in
our hard earned government and it is a pity. I predict that the sons
and daughters of the Landlords/ladies in Kenya and Uganda whose homes
were rented by our big guys are the ones enjoying our Country in terms
of employment more than ourselves, I detest it completely. I
appreciate your writing but next time try to confine the discussion
more on Bhar-el-Ghazel or Dinka because few from this place or people
are the ones involved, not all. Daniel Jok, South Sudan
Warrap people have nothing in common with Dinka elite in Juba Brother
Laila: In response to your article, "The Dinka people shouldn't be
held....." there is no doubt in my mind that your well thought article
captured the sad reality bedeviling our newly emerging country to be
soon. Both articles written by Peter Lual Ajak and Laila B. Lukosang
should be published in the local news papers so much so that the
Big-Brothers chilling in Juba be reminded of their moral obligation to
serving the people of South Sudan than making their own wallets and
bellies fat.
This said, the way I see it, brother Peter Lual Ajak’s article was
actually indirectly addressed to the Warrap elites or if I may-the
leadership in Juba who are at helm of power. This clever poor brother
of mine was basically ringing a bell for President Kiir to pay a
little bit of attention by saying: Big-Brother, it does not help
matters when our powerful sons and brothers are many out there
occupying senior constitutional posts in GOSS, yet here am I in the
countryside still struggling to make ends meet or to afford buying
Aspirin tab to cure a malaria virus -- I'm suffering from, it isn’t
for malaria treatment, I know it though.
Big-Man, I wish you being powerful being up there in heaven will make
a great impact here on the ground-earth planet so that it could be
something worth admiring of! In other words, Ajak is short of saying
my Big-People in Juba are anti-development. Hence, you Junubin out
there, please don’t generalize the poor Warrapain (Dinka) for the sins
they never committed, for some of you out there will be a shame to
know that, like you, I am a casualty of the same elitism running the
GOSS in Juba, don’t you dare crucify my poor people who have no clue
how suffering am I, and we are aware that they (Big-Brothers) only
know and care about building and securing brighter future for their
family members abroad or in Juba and to some extent that of relatives.
Yes, even though some of the elites in Juba running this show
excessively are from my own home town, yes, they have became the
“owners” of the State, but am yet to rip off the benefits.
Bluntly put, Warrapian/Dinka masses have almost nothing in common with
the Dinka elite in Juba. But the elite use the poor masses to maintain
the grips for power and resources, in Ajak’s own scrutiny. The elite
have amassed their wealth at the expense of poor Dinka (my own
interpretation). Ajak was politely saying, look: Many parts of the
Warrap State are still in the Stone Age Laila puts put it and having
been in the area in 2007. President’s home turf, according to
Augustino Ting’s brief article/reporting posted I the SPLM-Diaspora
forum is a study in poverty/high infant mortality with an alarming
frequency. Paradoxically, touch the bad governance and GOSS
leadership, Boy, many from the same area (Warrap) will cry that “their
people have been hated.” This is not unique though to the any tribe
in South Sudan. All Junubin masses have similar exploitative
relationships with their elites to say least.
This is my message to the Junubin across the globe: You can only be
enslaved to tribal demagogues if you allow yourselves to be taken for
free ride. For brother Peter Lual Ajak is telling his community
indirectly that don’t ever make mistake to allow yourselves to be
isolated from the rest of Junubin and Junub for that matter by the few
politicians and ruling elites who are more interested in wealth
accumulation than provision of basic services and infrastructures for
the common good of all. That, your destiny and future lies with the
rest of your brothers and sisters outside your comfort gray zone in
Junub al Sudan, and together we can move forward to develop and
co-exist peacefully without looking at each other with glaring
suspicious eyes for I am one part and partial of the larger community
in Junub el Sudan.
In sum, Ajak’s article is a reminder to all of us that that tiny
minority driving a luxury one hundred thousand dollar Toyota and
Hummer on our dilapidated roads has never done much for you and will
not do it so long we the poor masses keep on jumping into each other’s
throats. Therefore, we should all put aside our pity differences and
call out individuals responsible for mishandling our state affairs and
who are condemning my, yours and our villages and people to the Stone
Age life. John Omunu, South Sudan
Nuba people suffering won't end I appreciate the people of Nuba
Mountains for holding gubernatorial election in peace. But I am also
fearing that the people of Nuba Mountains do not understand the
massive sufferings they went through during the civil war. In the
light of this election, I fear that they might vote again to go to
north where their sons and daughters had been burned alive in churches
and villages. They should know why they had suffered in such a climax.
It is time for them to choose wisely in order not to repeat the same
sufferings. Most of the Nubian people were used as housekeepers and
most of all they were just treated as second citizens in their
Country. Today, the choice is in their hands and they have to know
beforehand what is the right path for freedom. Although they have made
a mistake in electing a candidate who can not and will not stand with
them during the time of "popular consultation". I believe Haron is not
the right person who will see them in the eye and say you are right,
since he has been used as crusader to kill innocent people in Darfur
and Abyei while they were trying to express their rights. If the
people of Nuba Mountains do not speak with one voice, their suffering
will never end, and their future will be a nightmare under Khartoum
regime. Moses M. Miyen, University of Texas at Dallas, USA.
Message to the SPLA/SPLM Hero and heroes. I'm really appreciating you
for what you did during the struggle period and I want to remember the
2.5 millions who lost their lives for the sake of this newest nation
(Republic of South Sudan. ROSS). Therefore, I urge all the rebels to
join the SPLA and see forward for the challenges facing us in the
remaining parts, border demarcation, popular consultation in south
Kordufan, Blue Nile and Abyei area. Malith Dut Akeen, University of
juba /juba
Agree to Disagree It is coming to light that the Dinka who are seen as
the cause of problems now agree to the fact that there are only a
fraction of the Dinka that are enjoying in the GOSS and that not all
Dinka should be generalized. Let the Dinka people come out openly and
tell the world the few privileged Dinka who are part of the problem
the south is facing now. Somebody somewhere mentioned that they have
houses, businesses and wives and children abroad. Why can't they have
all these in south Sudan? We will follow them in their hiding Dens
when the time is ripe. All the stolen monies will be recovered no
wonder the world has become a small place even the Swiss Bank is now
open minded because that is what used to be the Bank of choice to
thieves around the Globe. We can have the best schools in Africa if we
stop spending a lot of Money for the education of our children abroad
which can be used to improve the educational standard in the country.
We need the type of education tailored to meet our needs and that of
the country. We need the best educational system we can afford and not
depend on others for our educational need. Those countries made
theirs, it time we have to make ours if we do not steal our money due
to corruption with benefit to selective few who are doing all the
mess, all these individuals few should be rooted out and punished
regardless of who they are in the government after all, who is a
government? It is you and I. Come out clean and put corruption behind
then we shall grow and develop. Justin C. Opiny, Canada
Repeating repugnant mistakes of Arabs Dear Mr. Rengo Jr., It is
unfortunately most scandalous to anyone from Equatoria in general and
C. Equatoria in particular. You seem to vent your anger to the people
of Juba by talking ill of them for no definite reason. I know you want
to give an impression to other Southerners that Juba people are
against them, especially non-Equatorians. However, regrettably, you
have not scored any point out of this as you had wish. The Arab names
are not only found in Juba, but everywhere in the South. As you
suggested, changing of these irritating and down-grading names is far
more as important as the rest of our other nation-building programs.
You are right in this part. However, the other part that you totally
went weird and un-intellectual is that you decided to accuse directly
the C. Equatorians and Bari in particular, as the culprits of these
historical blunders and connivers who sided with the Arabs in Southern
political perception.
Brother, I still call you brother because of your black color
otherwise, these Arab names, as the Editor has said, are a result of
historical events during the colonial era that includes the
Northerners presence in the South. The Juba people suffered and are
still suffering the immortal pains in regard to these offensive
vestiges as you called them. However, what about the so-called names
‘Tongpiny, Jebel Dinka, Bor 2, Bilfam…etc’ just to mention but few? Is
it not another stereotype of repeat of that repugnant history of
Arabs? Let me precisely update your database for your benefit since
you now seemed to be residing in Juba. There is no place wherever you
are there that has no name since time immemorial. This Nile that you
may be enjoying it now is called Supiri; the so-called Jebel Kujur
which your offensive name Jebel Dinka to its western side emanates, is
historically called Kőrők; Tongpiny which is that small area around
southwest of the Airport, is part of the famous Juba na Bari village
that covers the area to Munuki, the Airport, Gabat, Rutun and so
forth; Bilfam is part of Kwőrijik Luri to the north of Juba in a place
called Suree; Kasaba is a village; Luluggu is a village; Nyakurőn is a
village and many more. Munuki is not the real name, its name is
Munukiik, meaning huge snake.
Please, do not rush to talking ill of these politically and culturally
conscious people. Pick your words carefully so that you will be spared
not to earn those sardonic and laughable ethnic names of yours by
Equatorians. Please again, take this piece of advice: a rat is a
coward in an open bush but brave when it has no chance of escape.

To the prophets of doom 1. There is too much exaggeration in this
message I am replying. Such a message is so detrimental and full of
lies. I don't think the SPLM/A is a separate entity from the general
populace of South Sudan.
2. SPLM/A was made up of ourselves (Southern people). Some people
treat this movement/Govt like a foreign occupying force, detaching it
from the Southern Populace.
3. This is unpatriotic attitude unexpected of us. SPLM/A has proved to
the marginalized beyond any reasonable doubt by liberating the South,
Nuba and Blue Regions from the Centuries old slavery and
marginalisation. SPLM/A is a reliable protector than any others
claiming authorities. SPLM is you and me, it does not come from
elsewhere.
4. The so called political parties are NCP beggars. They have lived
and worked together with the NCP against the South to date, and
mobilized the populace to support their bid to take power
undemocratically. How do we believe them?
4. This is just clear, the NCP wants his allies who were with him
during the war to take power so that they/NCP can continue ruling the
South in a Proxy and its interest protected. This will never happen.
Those who are abroad wishing the South to boil to a flame so that they
can come and take over power they are desperately dying to get while
in Canada, are just doomed prophets. They will still fail just like
they failed in their resistance to the Movement in the 90s. Giel

Land belongs to government? Bravo Mr. Isaiah, for your great and
logical analysis about the relocation of the capital. You have really
nailed most your points in many aspects. It;s true that all occupied
and unoccupied land in every nation on the earth belongs to
government. When we were at war with common enemy, there was no
discriminated decision made about where should the soldiers go for
combat as for the tribe component of those particular units. It's up
to the people who were in command to local the unit where ever they
think the enemy is resisting. Even here in the very developed society
like U.S.A where I'm residing right now, I do always see the
government displacing local residents and assist them to resettle at
some places elsewhere. It is ironic that local people are strongly
claiming ownership of the land over the government, which was not the
case during the war. Solomon Mangok, USA
Let Dinka accept their mistakes Thanks, Peter Lual, this is a very
clear message to those who may understand your points of view. Ask a
Dinka who point out the fact, your article is well informative to us,
one thing I want you do as South Sudan intellectual, let other Dinka
know there are some mistakes from the SPLM/SPLA rule and our problems
need to be solved by you Dinka Community through advices and
clarification. Also you need to make announcement to the Media or the
international Community needs to have good clarification from guys and
rest of Southern Sudan to made petition letter against SPLM regime.

Bari right to rename areas in Juba Dear Editor, my point of argument
on the issue of renaming the residential areas in Juba would not
contradict Mr. Rengo's analysis or understanding but typically give
slight comment on your argument. The following are my comments
concerning renaming of those areas and why it is important to consider
only names given by our Native South Sudanese citizens:
1. I will immediately rush to the reason why SPLA general headquarter
in Juba was named Bilpam. Bilpam if you had never been to the bush
during the last two decades of the civil war in our country was the
host and most strategic areas for all Southern Sudanese movements
including SPLA/M. It hosted lots of training and served as the base
for all Military strategic plans. It was the only safe heaven for all
the Southern movements which had not experienced any bombardment from
the Jalaba (SAF) from the fact that it is actually located in the
territory of foreign lamd. It is one of the reasons why late Dr. John
Garang is a good friend to the Ethiopia's former president Col.
Mengistu Hailemariam. It has therefore contribute enormously in the
succeed of both Any-nya one and SPLA/M. I would like to remind you
that SPLA does not belong to any ethnic group in the South never had
any political affiliation. It is a national army of our country and
it's aim is to protect our country from both external and internal
threats. It has got no border or state or ethnic affiliation.
Therefore SPLA has a right to build its headquarters anywhere in the
territory of South Sudan and give it any name that would actually
reflect the history of what they did. For this reason our government
had made a very important decision by naming this area as such so as
not to forget what had happened in Bilpam during the struggle.
2. I would actually regret of why Dinka name that area as Jebel Dinka
when the land is still being own by Bari community who have of course
a constitutional right to develop it or distribute it to any relevant
groups of individuals or communities who may use it for the benefit of
all Southern Sudanese provided that they met all the requirements
needed by the government to lease land. Dinka as one of the ethnic
groups in South Sudan have constitutional right to acquire land in
Juba but through legal procedure instead of seeing it like no man his
land and rush there to grab it and go further into naming it as per
their interest. This would breed another tribal hatred and feeling of
marginalization by other ethnic communities in South Sudan such as
Bari whom their land has been grabbed.
In general I would like to conclude that those colonial names of Arabs
must be changed and it is my pleasure as well to advice all citizens
of South Sudan nation to abstain from those barbaric acts of tribalism
and bulldozing behaviors. We would not actually be the first nation to
do that. This had happened in many countries which include off course
DR Congo and Ethiopia to mention only few. Ethiopia had experienced
such a naming issues: for instance Nezereth in Oromia region of
Ethiopia was a name given by Ahmara when they where in power and when
EPRDF came to power all the Nationalities in the country where given a
right to re-own their original territory and rename them as they want
and Nazereth was rename as Adama by Oromo who were the original owners
of the that land. The list may go on but space and time limit will not
allow us. Therefore it is the duty of Central Equatoria citizens
particularly Bari to rename those areas as seen necessary. May God
bless you all. Gatluak D Thon live in Juba
SPLM Message to the Masses on the occasion of May 16th Celebration
Dear Comrades; God bless the people of south Sudan and its people
This May 16th, 2011 is the proudest day in the History of our struggle
because it marks the biggest achievement of the Movement. We as SPLM
need to recognize the tremendous sacrifice of our people, especially
the 3 million martyrs who gave their lives for this newest country. It
also shows how if we are united in our efforts and spirit, nothing can
defeat us.
Let’s also recognize and thank our people; the elders, youth, women,
chiefs, teachers and our gallant SPLA soldiers for their continuous
contributions and support in their different capacities. Above all let
us thank our people for voting the SPLM into the Government and again
voting for freedom during the Referendum, allowing the SPLM to fulfil
its promise of leading them to the Promised Land. On this 16th May, we
want to make another promise to the people of South Sudan that SPLM
will continue to work for their freedom, peace, security and a
prosperous country. There will be challenges, but if we remain united,
we will achieve all our dreams. I am therefore calling all of you SPLM
leaders in the Executive, legislative and political positions, to mark
this great day by thanking our people for their contributions and
reiterate to them that the SPLM has met their promises and will
continue to lead them through the nation building starting from July
9th, 2011. Secondly in this celebration we should organize our people,
each holding a lit candle as symbol of hope for a bright future.
Makuei Lual, UK
Deal with the minority of thieves Yes, I do agree with what Peter Lual
Ajak wrote. People should not always blame Dinka for what is going
wrong in the South. But I hope the majority of innocent Dinka will
understand that they are being blamed for nothing. The all situation
is now clear. Only minority within the SPLM and GOSS are the ones to
blame. We can put down good rule and laws, we can have them behind
bars in a short time. Those who bought houses and have businesses
abroad are less than 1% of the population of the south and are
actually thieves. Urbano Tipo, Sudan
SPLA subjected Dinka villagers to worst suffering Bravo to Peter Lual
Ajak, I nearly wept after reading your well articulated message on the
suffering of common Dinka people and the messes that are being
committed in their names by some privileged few. Indeed, Southern
Sudanese need to rise up above tribal and/or clannish sentiments and
begin to see in clearest terms, who the perpetrators of messes are in
the country! The blazing corruption, nepotism, land grabbing and
atrocities being committed in Southern Sudan are not a doing of a
particular tribe or community, but rather of a self-molded multiethnic
clique thriving out of our masses' ignorance and short-sightedness.
Our cries and heartache will never stop unless and until we deal with
these greedy people as individuals and not lump them together with
their innocent communities. They have been using community names and
sentiments as their shields to escape accountability for far too long.
Their equally greedy families (children and wives) are now about to
take over their illegitimate reign of corruption, burning hatred
against some quarters of the society and allergic reactions to
slightest of criticism. It is a huge insult to our collective
intelligence as people of Southern Sudan, to see these self-elevated
leaders running the country as if they are residents of a different
planet and indeed, judging by their actions, they are physically
Southern Sudanese but psychologically foreigners and that is why they
tend to invest outside the country. They bring in private female
secretaries from foreign countries, another huge insult to our
beautiful and learned women!
>From onset, SPLA subjected Dinka villagers to worst of pain and
suffering, poor citizens were innocently killed, tortured, looted and
their livelihood turned upside down, yet our brothers and sisters from
non-Dinka communities don't see or appreciate this. Effectively, Dinka
people have been kicked around non-stop as a ball between the rogue
elements in SPLA and other community groups who see SPLA and Dinka as
one. This particular administration of Kiir, Riek and Wani have
brought the worst suffering the Dinkaland ever suffered! At least the
late Garang had strategies and charisma to restore hopes and authority
to severely punish perpetrators of heinous crimes. But our General and
his henchmen in Juba have shown absolute indifference and
insensitivity to the catalogue of messes under their rules. Only our
unity of purpose as common Southern Sudanese citizens can redeems us.
We shall exist peacefully and thrive as brothers and sisters or perish
together as fools, as once said by Martin Luther King Jnr. John
