On activating a button invisible to JAWS, have you tried pressing b in case JAWS takes you there anyway? Or searching with the JAWS cursor? Knowing you, yes, but those are two methods I'd be trying.
Going with Dan's idea, when you fall into forms mode with the other button, have you pressed the PC cursor to take you out of forms mode? After that, you might try experimenting with the enter key and arrow keys. Incidentally, no need to explain why you'd want to keep a private webpage private.
