My status line is checked in the view menu in TB, but still insert
numpad 3 doesn't work.
However, Dennis has sent me some instructions to get the JAWS cursor to
provide status information.

status line appear. You can still get to the view menu with alt-v in Office
2010 but just now I couldn't quickly figure out where this option appears in
the ribbon. You might want to experiment or Google it. I realize you're using
thunderbird, which I don't have, but this may point you in the right direction.

Assuming you're using a laptop computer, the command is JAWS key plus page
down. Depending on the lap top model, the page down is usually on the far
right hand side. The JAWS key is the caps lock, if you're in the lap top
layout.
