That may be true under some conditions. But I use Windows XP, and I cannot copy the files listed in the zip file with Control plus C. Instead, I must use a copy to folder option found in the edit menu. So, opening the zip file is not the same as having the files in an extracted folder.

If you press enter on a zipped file, copy the contents, & paste them into a folder of the same name somewhere else, it'll work just as you had unzipped
the file.
Take care.

Hi, Ann. Pressing Enter on a zip file usually does not unzip the file. it
only opens it so you can see the contents of the file. To actually unzip the file, one must press the Applications key, arrow to Extract All, follow the
dialogue boxes, and wait for the file to be extracted.

Usually pressing enter on a file unzips it. If you want to save the
unzipped version, you have to save it.

there is an item in the application menu that will unzip a folder.

OK. Totally embarrassed here. I thought I knew how to do this in Windows
7, but today at least I'm stumped.

I have downloaded a file which is zipped. How do I unzip it? Everything
I've done so far hasn't worked.

Thanks in advance. Keith
