Got new Controller and Receiver today (very exciting). Plugged the Receiver into the mains. The printed instructions said I should press button on front till button blinked red but the button blinked red as soon as I plugged it into the mains so didn't bother.
Got my 6 year old son Seth to set up Controller. Choosing language and region worked fine, and so did selection of our home wireless network. Then he got 64 bit wep encryption wrong three times, at which point the device appeared to connect and corectly listed the wireless network as "ScufflingsFarmhouse" (with tick and fully connecteed wireless icon). However, it couldn't see any of my players and was obviously not connected. It was impossible to go back and attempt to put the wireless key in again as the option would not appear on the menu. At this time I first came across a lot of "Set up Squeezebox" stuff.. not "Set up Receiver".... Holding the < button down for a while got me to the Jive Home screen which includes a link to "Settings". This screen also had five seperate menu items stating "Set up Squeezebox". Network Status listed SSID as ScufflingsFarmhouse and stated the device's IP address to be 169.254.122.214. My wireless range is 192.***. There are no other wireless networks or DHP servers within half a mile of my house. Other stuff reported: SNR: 40, RSSI: -51, NF: -86. Held < down and returned to "Set Up" screen. It found ScufflingsFarmhouse again... the listing was ticked and had the white transmitter graphic to the right of it. Clinking this gave me "Set Up Squeezebox" screen, with two menu items: "Squeezebox 1601BD" and "Skip This Step". After a few seconds the first item disappeared. Selecting "Skip This Step" took me to "Choose Player" screen.. Selecting "Set Up Squeezebox" from this screen took me to a screen with no Squeezeboxes listed. So I guess the crux might be that the Receiver seemed to think it had connected to my home network even though the wireless key had been keyed in incorrectly and then appeared to have got its IP address from thin air (hmmmm, that doesn't seem likely). BTW. Returning to "Jive Home" screen after this left me with nine "Choose Player" menu items and three "Return to Set Up" items. The only two (very small) doubts I have are: 1) maybe my son got the wireless key correct on the third try 2) maybe there is a dhcp server somewhere in my network I am not aware of After this I factory Ieset the unit and keyed in the correct 64 bit wireless key. In "Choose Player" screen it found my two existing players just fine, and after five seconds or so SqueezeNetwork magically appeared on the menu... however, selecting "Set Up Squeezebox" got me no player. I'll address this later. Supper calls. MC PS. Can I have my cradle and battery now? +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Filename: JiveHome.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4270| +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ -- ModelCitizen Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
