I have made a change to the power management for 7.0.1, the wireless power save mode is dynamically enabled/disabled while the Controller is communicating with SqueezeCenter. This does trade battery life for performance, for example browsing Albums with the artwork is now much quicker. However you really should not notice any significant difference from 7.0, so it looks like something is wrong.
First check the Advanced > Factory Test > Power Management settings, they should be as shown in the screenshot below. If not this could be the cause of the problem. Otherwise could someone please capture a log file on an SD card.
