I forgot all about the controlling buttons. But here is another version

http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/applet/mscalc/view.htm

Bill, would you please try this one?

This sounds a bit like an issue I once had where the commands from one page were acting on a completely different page. I remember pointing that out, but I don't recall any resolution. This iteration of view.htm tries to adjust for that by assigning a random value to the applet ID.

It's also possible that we are running into the need for a setTimeout() again.
OK, so here's a test for that:

Please see if there is any difference there.

Hopefully we will all be informed by this.

Bob,
In view of Phil's comments I have reexamined the behavior of your pages on a Mac running OS X 10.3.8. If Safari is newly opened all your pages seem to function as you intended. However, once a page has been opened, a new page loads (the structure appears), but none of the controlling buttons have any effect. By quiting and reopening Safari you can then effectively use a new page.
Netscape 7.2 does not have this problem; however the background of the applet is black rather than white, as in Safari.

OK. Now it works. Must have caught it at a bad time. I am using OSX 10.3.9 (latest update this past weekend) with Safari 1.3 and java 1.4.2.

Thanks, Phil,

Interesting. Can you tell me any error messages or
other useful information?

OS? Safari version? Java version?

Be sure to try it once more, as I was fiddling, and it was broken about 30 minutes ago.

Thanks, Tim,

Is it worth it pursuing why this might be?

Let's try all files in .html directory:

Other files work for you, for example,

?
