set showHiddenSelectionHalos [true|false] normally "false" (same as for halos and same as for selectionHalos not shown for atoms made not visible using the model/frame command). By the way, visible is a subset of displayed because if you assign spacefill 0; wireframe 0 that still counts as displayed -- just not visible.
