Right!  IE8 = no proper HTML5 = no JSnol at all

I know about limitations in getting computer labs configured, but 
IIMHO either they allow an updated Java version (it will work without 
problem after two confirmation dialogs at the most) or they update 
IE.

I doubt that. When you don't have Java you usually see a broken 
square in place -- in any case, that's not the issue now

Yes, but that error just tells you the Java applet files are not in 
place. it could work if you added the "java" folder below the page 
main folder
