Definitely a Philadelphia thing...and a very good one at that. My fam. moved to Philly when I was in High School, and it was the thing that I was surprised the most when I missed them. I've never had a cheesesteak as good anywhere else...whatever that means. A couple of years ago when ex Mayor Ed Rendell was campaigning for a slimmer, healthier Philadelphia, he even went so far as to suggest a lower fat substitute (not even joking, I might add...everybody eats the freakin' things), but I'm afraid that we all decided that we'd rather just deal with the consequences.
