Too true, Colin. Everyone heals at their own pace, and the pace of society dictates that we "snap out of it," the moment our suffering becomes inconvenient. Eventually "your heart gets up to go," (quoting Patty Larkin...), but only when it's ready to. Less than a year just doesn't seem like enough time for much of anything to heal.
I missed the original post that led to this discussion, which is ok. The one thing that made me feel safer on 9/11 was my sister's description of the entire sub fleet leaving Groton - on the surface. They never do that! Clearly, they wanted to send a message. Having stood there with her many times, I can only imagine how chilling that site must have been. lots of love Anne
