Emily,
i absolutely agree- it is great to think of all the music still to be
discovered! i'm on digest, so you;ve probably recieved countelss responses
already- i hope i'm not repeating anyone here.

i know that you're looking for a female artist, but i'm going to recommend
Rufus Wainwright. he is really quite amazing, IMHO. he wouldn't be to
everyones tastes, but from wehat you say i think that maybe you should give
him a chance. at first he can be a little hard to take, but i've found his
music to ba a rewarding experience. he has but one album- Rufus Wainwright.
it was produced by Jon Brion (Fiona anD Aimees latest producer).

or perhaps Patti Smith would be to your liking. i know there are others
here that would echo that thought. her album Horses is superb- with all the
qualities you asked for and then some! her latest album is Gung Ho which is
also very good. in fact everything of Pattis i've heard i've loved. the
new PJ Harvey single reminds me a lot of Patti Smith, but then Polly always
reminds me of Patti. there's one more for you. PJ is fantastic. i've been
listening to Portishead a lot lately, a band i couldn't stand for the
longest time....all those hours i missed!!!!!!
i've also been know to try and sell Joan Osbourne from time to time. her
latest one (about time Joan) is stronger than teh reveiws would have you
believe.

and one more thing- it is great to meet another Hole fan on the list! Live
Through This was one of those albums for me.
GARRET
np- HOLE- SEASON OF THE WITCH (and yyeeeeahhhhh, its great....tho i cant
sing along cos the dentist did something mad to me and i cant open my mouth)
