This John Mayall painting is one of his that appears in the book STARART.
In STARART the painting is untitled - dated 1966. Trying to piece the
"Joni's favorite" tag on it, I'm wondering, since Joni was a part of
STARART along with Mayall, Cat Stevens, Klaus Voormann, Ron Wood and
Commander Cody, is it the painting itself that was *Joni's favorite* of
Mayall's contributions to the book?? My guess, like Debra's, is the
seller is just fabricating a story to try to make a sale! I just went
through John Mayall's commentary throughout STARART and the thing that I
find that would dispell it being our Joni in the painting, is that this
painting was done in 66 while Mayall says "he first came to America in
1968". So, after reading through Mayall's section, I just don't buy it
being our Joni, cuz for one, she's not mentioned in any of his book text
(or he in her's), two, he wasn't in the States yet, and three, Joni was
still a relative unknown on the coffee house circuit at the time (66).
This print, may have been the eqivalent of the print Joni offered,
"Charley Down In Mexico", for sale by order to STARART in Canada, back
when the book first came out. I remember I found the offer in the back of
Rolling Stone and only bought the CDIM print, for about $30 if I recall
correctly, but one from each artist was available, each with the same
price tag.
