Sure, no question, When she wanted to make a more abstract expressionist
statement musically,   Jaco was undoubtedly the right man for the job.
His tone  on Hejira was beautiful but by the time they got to Mingus his ego
had run riot.    Didn't she say that the early Mingus sessions had to be
scrapped because when they played it back Jaco's bass had drowned out
everyone else. Max was the right man in the right place for HOSL.  Listen to
his intro on the title track and the little cascade of notes he plays right
after she sings the word "hill".
