If you're using TLS for the transaction, there is no guarantee your password is encrypted. It only encrypts the conversation between your mail client and the server, no matter what port you're configured for.

To have the password encrypted, there is an option to encrypt the password but the server must support that.

Do you have smtp authentication configured?
