ah, got it!

in that case, go into the account setting for fetching mail and uncheck 
Sync Server Deletions.  then periodically go into the mail server and 
delete all the mail.  

Not that it matters, but what difference does it make if your mail is on 2 
mail servers.  Maybe it's time to re-think if the original mail provider - 
are the restrictions are worth the trouble.  There are plenty of others ;) 
 If it's a work account, I'm sure they don't like corporate mail being 
forwarded to an outside mail server. Even if you delete it, the mail 
provider still has copies.
