Hi Guys, Thanks for your answers and suggestions. Much appreciated.
Let me explain a bit about my situation: I just switched to another provider because I noticed with my previous provider sometimes mail did not arrive. When I started to use the new provider it became apparent that there was a problem when more then one device is polling the same e-mail box. To avoid simultaneous polling I decided to forward mail to a dedicated account (with the same provider) for my phone. This works rather well. But... I discovered this weekend that the e-mail box I set up for my phone was growing. Since I have a maximum of 250MB of storage with this provider (I should not need much more since I don't need an elaborate website) my growing phone e-mail box was becoming a problem. And lazy as I am I was/am looking for a solution where e-mail in this box is automatically removed after fetching so I don't have to clean up the box once in a while. If K-9 does not support this feature I have two options left: remove e-mails periodically of look for another app that will remove the e-mail after fetching. I will have a look around in the store to see if there is an app that does what I need. I rather like K-9 so I hope I can find a solution that works in K-9. Thanks again!
