I understand the difference but believe that the original poster,
while using the term "rich text" really meant "html" (their response
to my followup would seem to support that). You don't get "rich
text" (tm) in any messaging environment save something from m$. My
"html (aka "rich text")" line should probably have been "html (often
referred to as "rich text")".

While I agree that html or rich text doesn't belong in email, some
people seem think it has value, so I don't have a huge problem with
an email client rendering it -- but there really should be a
user-settable option on which part, text vs. html, of a message
should be rendered as the default. That K-9 doesn't is my biggest
complaint.
