I care because it makes my tests ugly and a pain to type... I should
also note that this behavior is questioned every few weeks on the TG
list, because it's not behavior that people expect.
I aggre on both points, I think the worst part about people asking is that if you write lowercase you expect lowercase, having a output as uppercase makes people thing that kid is messing a little too much with their code.
The only thing I see in the XHTML spec says that HTML 4 is case
insensitive, but that the DOM explicitly returns upper case.
I'd also argue that it's very easy to tell if you're using XHTML or
HTML from the DOCTYPE at the top of the page.
I have always though uppercase HTML was something that has been done like that because someone else did it first, not because it was intented to be that way. and this days doctype is actually the the first thing everyone looks at.
Certainly, one can change the behavior with one line of code, but I
think the default is not the best choice.
studies say that 80% of everyone of us leaves the defaults like that basicallt because we don't bother to look for where to change it. :)
