Ham operators communicate using wireless all the time. You can select
Called PACKET RADIO or somesuch, innit? I recall it being popular with
some folks back in my fidonet days.

Yeah, a friend had it when we were at Uni using 2400bps modems. He had Mbps connectivity through it (IIRC - but maybe I don't, but I do remember drooling over his connectivity...)
