Did you read my follow-up post to Mark's? You don't need a dish. You
don't have to "lock" onto the satellite. You don't need a sophisticated
system to move a dish around. You only need a transmitter of sufficient
power and a receiver of sufficient sensitivity.
The only problem is there is not yet enough of a market for broadband to
bring prices down significantly. By this I mean our dual network
cellular and satellite modems cost somewhere around $600-$800 (not my
department, so I can't give an exact price). I understand broadband
Iridium is high as well. This doesn't include the monthly connection fee.
I'm hoping new products next year will solve this problem. One of our
goals is to bring the prices down - lower prices means a wider market
which translates to more products sold.
