Why? He's not Jesus Christ. Given that this is 2005 and not 1955, I
think the definition of "Foul language" is, in most contexts, more than
a little anachronistic. The word fuck in its various forms is so
embedded in today's English vernacular that I'm surprised that anyone
could be surprised that someone would use it. I even expect it in
certain expressions which wouldn't carry the emotional payload
sufficiently without its use.
In the instant case, I thought that, within the context of both the
thread and Linus's thought, the use of the word was not unacceptable.
And I, DJA, am surprised that anyone would think it appropriate
for a world-renowned person in the public's eye to resort to
this kind of language to make a point. I've never read Linus
resorting to cheap tricks like this in the past, I wondered
if it was really him.
I guess you run in different circles than I do. The only time
I hear "fuck" in any of it's various forms is when my drug-addled
step-daughter is in town.
