Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Southern California's original microbrewery is 
seeking a Systems Administrator to join our team. 

Karl Strauss Brewing Company produces and distributes a variety of 
brewery-fresh, handcrafted beers brewed from the private recipes of Master 
Brewer Karl M. Strauss. Karl Strauss Brewing Company has grown to become the 
largest distributing microbrewing and restaurant company in Southern 
California. 

Qualified candidates for the Systems Administrator position will have a 
Bachelor’s level degree with a focus on Information Systems is strongly 
preferred. 4-6 years experience in a WAN environment as a Network 
Engineer/Administrator in a Microsoft systems environment preferred. Specific 
experience with Cisco – switches, routers, PIX Firewalls preferred. Significant 
experience coordinating with third party vendors, facilities and 
telecommunications preferred. Experience with implementing, maintain and 
administering VOIP systems preferred. 

The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining and improving all 
facets of communication, collaboration and technology tools and systems and 
their associated infrastructure requirements. The Systems Administrator will 
provide current-solution best practices for the technology applications, and 
keep pace with emerging and rapidly changing industry infrastructure trends. 
These responsibilities further include: managing capital and time to achieve 
established objectives; proactively communicating scheduling and status of 
system maintenance, IT Help Desk jobs and IT projects with divisional 
management and affected staff; maintaining robust documentation on all 
associated systems; providing tools and ongoing communication to train 
corporate-wide staff in the use of IT and communication systems and to promote 
a greater level of proficiency throughout the company. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
~ The management of applied technologies, including: integration of new and 
existing technology systems; network layout; hardware and system software 
purchasing; vendor selection and contract negotiations; efficient work-flow and 
data-flow design; asset management, expense tracking and budget planning; 
developing a technology plan (in conjunction with Company Information 
Management plan) that assesses and plans for future needs. 
All aspects of Network Administration, including: 
i) Establishing & maintaining multiple file & data servers and workstations at 
all KSB locations, including: User Accounts; network and file level security; 
remote access; system back & recovery; hardware maintenance; system software 
licensing; maintaining asset and equipment inventory tracking system. 
ii) WAN and LAN Administration including company Virtual Private Networks. 
Implement measures and enforce policies to maintain the security, reliability 
and accuracy of network data. Firewall configuration and maintenance; VPN 
device configuration and maintenance; Workstation maintenance; Connectivity 
analysis and troubleshooting; remote site access; dial-up user access; wireless 
user access. 
~ Developing and maintaining a company-wide Disaster Recovery Plan that 
establishes protocols and systems to prevent loss of company information in the 
event of a disaster. In conjunction, developing more specific Fault Recovery 
plans that ensure limited-down time during independent or more closely-confined 
system failures. 
~ Assisting in the development and maintenance of the corporate Information 
Protection Program under the direction of the Director of Information 
Management. This program includes but is not limited to: the aforementioned 
recovery plans; network security administration; user administration; 
communications security administration; quality assurance; physical equipment 
security and environmental controls; operation scheduling; backup and recovery 
systems; storage and retrieval functions; limit hour-of-operation downtime; 
data accuracy and legal/regulatory compliance. Documentation and tracking of 
all above listed systems. It may include: risk assessment and change management 
security controls. 
~ Establishing & maintaining a highly-reliable Email communication system, 
including: user account management; user points-of-access; distribution list; 
address books; undeliverable mail; anti-SPAM and antivirus systems management; 
troubleshooting of any associated email system errors or failures. 
~ Maintaining the company’s End User IT HelpDesk and infrastructure training 
program. This includes, but is not limited to: Microsoft Office and some 
desktop application support (training and fault resolution); Enterprise 
application training & support; Aloha Point of Sale server and terminal 
support; Miscellaneous network training & support; Communication systems 
training and support; Hardware installation and troubleshooting. 
~ Public website infrastructure management and technical consultation to the 
Marketing department and under it’s conceptual guidance. To cooperatively 
determine associated cost-balanced technology requirements. Promoting and 
optimizing Internet traffic to the site and maintaining Internet traffic 
analysis tools and providing reports to marketing or other division management. 
~ Intranet infrastructure management, content development, content updates and 
management of technical controls. Development, implementation and support of 
new concepts in intranet technology in the effort to maintain an efficient, 
dynamic and self-sustaining web based tool to facilitate collaboration on 
company business. Support and maintenance of access to Intranet resources on 
private and public networks. 
~ Data system programming in support of the Systems Analyst may be required. 
This can include, but is not be limited to: Customer Service support; 
Production support; Distribution support; Beer Sales; Catering support; 
Restaurant support; Accounting support; Quality Assurance support. 
Must have strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically. Must 
be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on 
multiple projects simultaneously. 
~ Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the 
company and its operating units. 
~ Excellent oral and written skills, experience in supporting 
telecommunications, data networking devices including knowledge in Ethernet 
connectivity, troubleshooting bottlenecks, VPN’s, network monitoring and 
analytical tools are necessary. Experience with Data Storage Equipment and the 
processes of Network Data Recovery are also necessary. 

***Due to the mission critical nature of the Company’s Information Systems, 
members of the IT staff will be required to work some evenings and weekends on 
mission critical systems and in the cases of emergencies.
