Every time I need svn, I have the good fortune of being able to do one of:

up2date -i subversion

aptitude install subversion

port install subversion

That takes care of the dependancy chain for me. Of course, I grimace when I see what _else_ is going to be installed to allow the installation of subversion, but it's reached the "I don't have to deal with it myself, so I care little" point in my life.

I stand on the shoulders of giants with far more patience and packaging expertise than I can currently hope to posses.
