Fine, then don't publish. You will note that I said copyright accrues from date of publication? Right? I'm pretty sure I said that.

We grant copyright in order to encourage publication and create a richer society. That is the principle.

Those of us who want to see the copyright law revamped agree with that principle but not the current implementation.

Those who advocate no copyright disagree with the principle.

However, if we wait for 100% consensus, nothing gets done. That's practicality. In this instance, we can choose some metrics and try it.
