Both technologies use a SONET backbone have QoS in place. DSL uses a DSLAM so
the traffic is seperated. Cable on the otherhand utilizes spread spectrum
polling so resource hogging is not really a issue. Cable is faster, but
services like Cox block certain protocols so it's harder to host a website.
Personally I like SBC DSL. The speed is great and they also have SBC Freedom
link (http://www.freedomlink.com ) which gives you acess to a bunch of hotspots
for only $2 a month.

Broadband bandwidth is really going to take off in the next few years.
Technologies like VDSL 2.0, IPTV & Wimax are really going to drive up choice
and speed for everyone.

Subject: Cable vs Phone Co. for Phone Service

I know there has been discussion about cable modem vs DSL, but I wonder
what arguments you might have for and against Cable for phone service.

Pros:
Since AT&T took over PacBell, my phone bill doubled. Time Warner offers
a flat rate.

Cons:
One disadvantage I see with cable, is that if the power goes out, so
does your phone service.

I guess I could also save money by switching to DSL, but that's another
issue. The point is, I don't see much savings from combining a package.

== Time Warner ==
Cable Modem - $50
Phone Service - $25
---------------------------------
Total                $75

== AT&T ==
DSL                                  $20
Phone Line & features        $25
Long Distance                   $35
-------------------------------------------------
Total                                $80

Other options? Vonage, www.vonage.com, Sun Rocket www.sunrocket.com,
etc.  Any experiece with these?
