Ever check your credit report? Ever try to get something false off it?

Yes and yes. Just last month in fact.

They are unaccountable and they act like it.

I thought the rules of accountability were fairly reasonable. If you can
prove it is false it usually isn't a problem getting it off. It is in
their interest to have accurate credit reports. They gain nothing by
reporting incorrect information on you.

Not entirely true. They are funded by those who extend you credit. Those who extend the credit can rake you over the coals if your report is bad. They prefer to make safe loans. But they also like to charge out the wazoo. So if they can make a safe loan *and* charge out the ying-yang for it, so much the better! They will benefit more if people with good track records have mistakes on their reports. And the credit bureaus are not only lazy to do any more than they must, they also don't want to bite the hands that feed them.
