Are these any good?
ECS should be synonymous with, "don't waste your money on crap"
Spend even $100 more on components and you'll have a *much* better
system. ECS is SE Asian crap with no manufacturing standards; it's
designed to hit the american consumer market with a *very* short
planned obsolescence period in mind.
Trust me, you don't want it.
I have a ECS K7S5A (something or other) that's been running great with
no issues since 2001. I also have a box at my office with an ECS
K8T890-A with no issue either.
Yeah, and we went through at least four of the K7S5A boards with each
blowing itself up. In fact, I think that board must be the all time
worst mobo ever. Before ECS wiped their K7S5A forum, there were over
2000 posts about it, nearly all of which were complaints and work-around
tips. Forums for their other models probably averaged a few dozen
complaints each.
Based on that board, I'll never touch another ECS board again. I think I
still have a K7S5A laying around here somewhere that's never been used.
I guess I've just been waiting to give it to someone as punishment.
Fry's gets a deal on them because, according to one employee I know,
they have some kind of arrangement between them. ECS is well known for
making low-end boards for many anonymous and marginal-quality mobo
re-badgers.
