Wonder whether to choose AMD over Intel or not.

My take is that Intel currently has the lead in bang for the Watt, and a
performance lead too.

While I can't argue with the physics (read: power dissipation as heat), I *can* argue that while the intel performs better on paper, the AMD is still a better design, and for most cases will be a smoother, better-performing system than the Intel.

That still doesn't change my opinion that you should avoid ECS like the plague which it is.

The Intel-compatible boards seem to gravitate toward the GMA950 video
chip. AMD seem to have Nvidia (I think).

You'll definitely get better performance (and likely better drivers) for the nVidia(*). Another reason to go with the AMD combo.

(*) However, the nVidia drivers are'nt opensourced, while the Intel ones are. They're free-as-in-beer and easy to install in both cases.
